In a tragic incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur, at least nine people died in a cruise boat capsize incident at Bargi Dam on April 30, 2026. The state tourism department’s cruise vessel was carrying 30 passengers when it was suddenly struck by powerful winds, causing it to lose balance and capsize. As per authorities, the vessel sank due to sudden change in weather. The change led to windy conditions, leading the vessel to sink. Following the incident, the authorities took swift action and the response teams reached the spot rescuing 15 people from the water. The teams worked under the supervision of the Jabalpur collector, Raghvendra Singh, and a senior police officer.
A heart-wrenching video has surfaced on social media, where the rescuers found the mother clinging to her child, an attempt that failed to save them. Rescuers said both were wearing life jackets but the child remained tightly held against the mother. They belonged to a family of four, with father and daughter surviving from the wreckage. There is still no clarity on the exact number of missing persons. Officials fear that several people may still be trapped inside the sunken vessel. Locals also stepped in to help people, rescuing some individuals with ropes, particularly those who managed to secure life jackets.
