Imagine a super-weapon under the sea that moves as fast as a bullet and can destroy big ships and submarines. Iran calls this weapon Hoot, and it may be the same secret weapon it recently mentioned.

Iran says its enemies fear this weapon. This warning came at a time when peace talks with the United States stopped. Former US President Donald Trump refused Iran’s demand to remove the naval blockade. Because of this, tension between the two sides has increased.

Shahram Irani issued the statement. He said that Iran will soon use a new weapon against its enemies. He also said that the weapon is very close to them, and joked that it might give them a “heart attack.”

Sandeep Unnithan said this weapon could be the Hoot rocket torpedo, which Iran secretly tested around 2006. This torpedo is so fast that enemies get very little time to react.

However, experts also say that this weapon has some weaknesses, which will be important to understand later.

What Is the Hoot Torpedo?

The word “Hoot” means whale in Persian. Iran says that it is one of the fastest underwater weapons in the world.

In fact, after Russia, Iran is only the second country to have a special type of torpedo called a super-cavitating torpedo. Russia already has a similar weapon, the VA-111 Shkval, which it developed in the 1990s.

How Is It Different from Normal Torpedoes?

Normal torpedoes (underwater missiles) move at a speed of about 60–100 km per hour.

But Iran says that the Hoot torpedo can go faster than 360 km per hour underwater, which is extremely fast.

How Can It Move So Fast?

Water is very thick (about 1,000 times denser than air), so things usually slow down in water.

But Hoot works in a special way:

  • It creates a bubble of gas around itself
  • This bubble reduces water resistance
  • Because of this, it can move very fast

Scientists call this technology super-cavitation.
Instead of moving through water, the torpedo moves inside a bubble, like it’s flying in air underwater.

What Makes Hoot Powerful?

  • The torpedo is extremely fast.
  • It works like a fire-and-forget missile, meaning once launched, it moves on its own.I
  • t is also capable of carrying a large explosive warhead (over 200 kg).

What Are Its Weak Points?

Every weapon has some problems:

  • Because it is very fast, it uses fuel quickly
  • So, it can only travel about 15 km

Normal torpedoes can go around 30 km, which is double the distance.

Can Iran’s Hoot Torpedo Sink a US Aircraft Carrier?

A defence expert, Sandeep Unnithan, says there is a big problem with the Hoot torpedo.

Military forces have not tested it properly in real battle situations.

He also explained that these super-fast torpedoes are very hard to control because:

  • They move too fast
  • They make a lot of noise
  • The gas bubble around them can confuse SONAR (underwater detection system)

Because of this, it becomes difficult to hit the target accurately.

What About US Aircraft Carriers?

Big US aircraft carriers like the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) are extremely strong and well-protected.

They have:

  • Strong armour in important areas
  • Double and triple layers (hull) for safety
  • Extra floating ability, so they don’t sink easily

This means engineers have designed them to survive even multiple torpedo attacks.

Strong Protection System

These carriers are never alone. Military forces always protect them with a large group, including:

  • Destroyer ships
  • Cruiser ships
  • Submarines
  • Fighter jets

The military calls this combined force a Carrier Strike Group (CSG).
