History was created at the Birsa Munda Stadium, where three Indian athletes, Gurindervir Singh, Vishal TK, and Tejaswin Shankar each delivered national record-breaking performances in close succession. Three national records in the 100m, 400m, and decathlon, and three historic firsts for Indian athletics, grabbed the national headlines on Saturday evening.
Gurindervir’s 10.09s 100m sprint broke a significant barrier, Vishal’s 44.98s in the 400m set a new national milestone, and Tejaswin’s 8057 points established a decathlon record for India. The cluster of achievements was created within an hour, defining the moment for the nation’s track and field.
Vishal’s fastest 400m
Vishal TK broke the national record in the 400m last year by becoming the first Indian to run the 400m in under 45 seconds, clocking 44.98s to top Asia’s seasonal rankings. His father and coach were emotional after the achievement.
An emotional Dawson embraced him tightly, later saying, “I can run four more such races — that’s how excited I am right now. I always knew he could do it, and it happened today. This is just the start. Indians are coming for the world.”

Tejaswin Shankar: the beast
Tejaswin Shankar broke his own national record by scoring 8057 points in the decathlon. He achieved personal bests in four events, reflecting his rapid development since moving from high jump to decathlon three years ago.
His strength and conditioning coach Wayne Lombards said, “He is a beast.” “He knows exactly what he needs to do and how to do it. I’m not surprised he has crossed 8000 points so early after taking up the decathlon seriously.”

Gurindervir’s sprint supremacy
Gurindervir Singh’s final turned into a dramatic contest with Animesh Kujur, where the national 100m record shifted multiple times before being set at 10.09s.
He has now qualified for the 2026 Commonwealth and Asian Games, with this achievement, he is ranked as Asia’s second-fastest of the season.
He posted, “Indian genes tagde hain” on social media.
