The Indian Railways has unveiled the design of India’s first bullet train which is set to run between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. An image was displayed at the Ministry of Railways in New Delhi. The design display has been installed at Gate Number 4. The train will consist of 8 coaches along with a focus on passenger convenience and comfort, giving high-speed performance.

The bullet train which is expected to become operational from August 15,2027, will run at a speed of 320 km/hr along the 508-kilometre-long high-speed rail corridor. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav in February informed the Lok Sabha that the 508-km Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) Project would pass through Maharashtra, Gujarat and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

The route will feature 12 stations namely, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane, Mumbai and Sabarmati. The journey is expected to be completed in approximately two hours.

The foundation work of MAHSR project has been completed at eight stations in Gujarat. Work is underway at Thane, Boisar and Virar in Maharashtra, while excavation at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) station is nearing completion.

According to Indian Railways, the project will boost high-speed rail capabilities under the Make in India initiative. This will also be a step forward to ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision.
