New Delhi, the national capital of India, has been put on high alert following intelligence inputs indicating a possible terror attack. This has prompted the Delhi Police and other security agencies to increase vigilance across sensitive locations. Security has been beefed up at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters on Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) Marg and nearby government establishments. Police have been asked to monitor suspicious movements, unattended objects and vehicles parked in sensitive zones. The security agencies have received alerts about possible attempts to target prominent offices and crowded areas in Central Delhi through suicide attacks, shootings, coordinated strikes and vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
According to sources, anti-sabotage checks are being carried out at important government buildings, markets, transport hubs, political offices and other crowded places across the city. Bomb disposal squad, sniffer dogs, and quick reaction teams have been asked to stay on high alert.
Security arrangements have been increased at crowded places across the city. Local police are conducting random checking drives and verification exercises.
This alert came weeks after Delhi Police Special Cell busted a module linked to Pakistani gangster-operative Shahzad Bhatti. Police found that the members of the module were planning targeted killings in Delhi.
Last year, police busted a Jaish-e-Mohammed-linked white-collar terror module following the deadly car blast at Red Fort. At least 15 people were killed and several were injured. The blast occurred just hours after three doctors associated with Al Falah University among eight people were arrested and 2,900 kg of explosives were recovered.
