Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he was successfully treated for early-stage prostate cancer, after a small tumour was discovered during a routine checkup. He delayed the publication of his annual medical report by two months to deter Iran from spreading  “false propaganda” against Jerusalem amid the ongoing war. Netanyahu underwent surgery for an enlarged benign prostate in 2024 and has since been under routine medical monitoring. During a recent check up the tumor was discovered. Upon examination, it turned out to be a very early stage of a malignant tumour, with no spread or metastases whatsoever, he said on X. Netanyahu was treated with radiation therapy for early-stage prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer starts in the prostate gland, a small walnut-shaped organ located just below the bladder, and is a common cancer that is often treatable, especially when detected early. Netanyahu chose the option of eliminating it entirely through targeted treatment out of the two options given by the doctor. The other being, to manage it through regular monitoring. Prostate cancer is the second leading cancer in men across the world. More men are showing up when the cancer has already moved beyond the prostate, and that’s a real problem.
