Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “terrorist” at a press conference on Tuesday. He also criticised AIADMK for allying with BJP for the April 23 polls in Tamil Nadu. His remarks drew sharp criticism from BJP, following which he clarified that PM Modi “threatens” and “terrorises” his opponents. Later, the BJP has filed a complaint with the Election Commission, seeking action against Kharge. “How these AIADMK people, who themselves put the photo of Annadurai, how can they join Modi? He is a terrorist. His party won’t believe in equality and justice. These people are joining with them; it means they are weakening democracy, they are weakening the philosophy of Annadurai, Kamaraj, Periyar, Kaliagnar, Baba Saheb Ambedkar,” M Kharge said.
Kharge also claimed that PM Modi is a liar and has not done anything for the people of the country for the last 12 years. Following the remarks, several BJP leaders slammed Kharge’s comment on PM Modi. Union Minister Piyush Goyal also condemned Kharge’s ‘terrorist’ remark on PM Modi and demanded an apology from him. “We feel ashamed that the Congress has come down to such a level. They called a democratically-elected Prime Minister a terrorist. He has been elected by the people. I strongly condemn Kharge’s statement and demand an apology from him for insulting him and the people of our country,” he said. Tamil Nadu will vote in a single phase on April 23 for 234 Assembly seats. The results will be announced on May 04.
