Iran has rejected a US ceasefire plan and proposed a ten-point response that calls for a permanent end to the war. The response means that Iran doesn’t want a temporary truce and is aiming for a permanent solution. Iran has asked for an end to all conflicts in the region, a protocol governing safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, the lifting of sanctions and a commitment to reconstruction. At the core, Iran is asking for a permanent end to the war, not just within its borders but also in Lebanon and Gaza. Tehran also wants recognition of its control over the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has also called for the lifting of all economic sanctions, which have long put pressure on Tehran’s economy. In addition it is seeking formal acknowledgement of its right to enrich uranium under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. “We only accept an end of the war with guarantees that we won’t be attacked again, says Iran.” In an interview, US President Donald Trump has said that he is not ready to step back as of now. He also emphasised that “Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.” The officials at the White House have said that Pakistan-backed ceasefire proposal is “one of many ideas” under consideration, but President Trump has not signed it yet.
