Oil-saturated rain struck in Iran’s capital, Tehran, on Sunday after a major airstrike aimed at Iran’s oil refineries was carried out by US-Israeli forces. The strikes targeted oil facilities in the southern and western parts of the city. Four oil storage facilities and oil production transfer centres were targeted by the forces in Tehran and Albroz on Saturday. Four tank drivers were killed in the attack. The rain left black residue all over the city. An advisory has been issued by the Governor urging the citizens to wear masks following the polluted air situation. Images and videos from the city showed dark clouds hanging over Tehran. Citizens said that rain carried oil residue that stained the roads and buildings in the city.

The fire that escalated due to the attack, burned for hours, sending large plumes of black smoke into the air. The rain may contain harmful substances like hydrocarbon compounds or sulphur or nitrogen oxides, which may pose serious health risks. Iran’s Red Crescent Society advised the citizens to remain indoors, cover openings in their homes with wet cloth and remove the oil residue from the vehicles and buildings so that it doesn’t turn into dust later.

Israeli forces carried out strikes in Southern Lebanon, killing 394 people so far, including 83 children. The development comes amid a ceasefire signed in the year 2024. Elsewhere in the region, Iran has carried out strikes at Bahrain’s desalination plant. Bahrain has been targeted by Iran because it hosts US Navy’s fifth fleet. As of now, it seems like, there is no end to the war as in retaliation US attacked Iran’s Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran’s desalination plant is situated. The war which began on February 28, has disrupted global energy markets.
