In the first of three matches in a series of ODIs, Aiden Markram orchestrated an 8 wicket massacre of West Indies on February 26, 2026 in the SuperSport Park, Centurion in the first of three. Markram demolished the visitors by an unbeatable 112 not out in 105 balls and left the Proteas with 248 in 24 in 42.3 overs as they should have had 247 in 49.4 overs. This was his flair and personal brilliance which dictated the theme of his leadership in the series.
Batting, Wiggle and Failure, West India.
West Indies, which began bat-firstedly, ventured slowly on, and Shai Hope (45) and Keacy Carty (38) made 78 to the second wicket. But the seam attack of South Africa avenged. Captain Markram introduced the necessity to introduce spinners Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi at the time when the middle order needed to be blasted. Shimron Hetmyer went on to make 56 but they were attacked by too many hits by Kagiso Rabada (3/42) and Marco Jansen (2/39) and were put on the defensive.
The lowest rank included hardworking ones that were Romario Shepherd (32) and Gudakesh Motie (28) but not allied. Markram was very agile with the balls just like it was with the spectacular grab at point that gave the Proteas a lot of energy. West Indies had performed no serviceable display in 247 compared to a pitch which produced a seam in the beginning and a turn later.
The Perfect Chase in South Africa.
In the process, South Africa lost its openers Tony de Zorzi (12) and Ryan Rickelton (28) to Alzarri Joseph in the early stages of the game. Markram came in, bleeding his way once more with his more familiar art–clean strokes and a hazard figured by the inch. They lost the onslaught with Dawid Malan (74 off 82) killing it in the second wicket.
Markram lifted the cover drive and he made his 12 th ODI ton and the fists were pumped. He completed his unbeaten, with 84 stand with David Bedingham (33*), and won the match by the overs remaining to play with. West Indies bowls never penetrated; spin (Roston Chase) was as toothless.

Markram Excellence Masterclass in Leadership.
Markram is a strategist and this is a trait that is concealed by his calmness at the age of 31. During the old days he had done the best with seam-swing and in the new ones with spin by spinning bowlers. He justified this by the fact that he had made the preparation of the team afterwards: Later, after the match, he stated: We were supporting our plans; they were realised in a perfect manner. His tone was calming down the skeptical elements in the World Cup qualification mission of South Africa with the backdrop of the suspicion about white-ball shape.
West Indies Shai Hope Captain- regretted lost chances and bat losses: Should front next game. The size of the proteas was unimaginable and Rabada was fast bothering the batsmen.
Series Implications
This is the victory following the extensive domination in the good home ODI series that South Africa had been enjoying in the run-up to Durban with 2-0 series advantage. The shape of Markram is the symbol of willingness to more. In West Indies it is yet to recover–young guns must take more parts in the place of stars, as Carty.
One such performance that was all round was that of Markram. Centurion loyal greeted a captain, and in full blast.
