The former army chief General MM Narvane has broken his silence over his memoir, Four Stars of Destiny, which is yet to be published. The clarification comes amid growing controversy over the status and circulation of his unpublished book. He shared a post by Penguin Random House India on X and wrote, “This is the status of the book”. This was Penguin Random House India’s first official clarification on the issue. It said no copies have been published as of now, either in digital or in print form. It also warned that any copies presently in circulation, whether in whole or in part anywhere would amount to copyright infringement and legal action would be taken against the entity.
The Delhi Police registered an FIR over the alleged circulation of an unpublished book authored by General MM Narvane. The Penguin Random House India said that there is a clear distinction between an announced book, a book available for pre-order and a published book. A book is considered “published” only when it is formally released and made available for purchase across retail platforms.
The book came into spotlight last week when the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi was seen displaying a purported copy of the book in the Parliament complex. The episode led to repeated disruptions in the Lok Sabha (LS). In a recent development, a no confidence motion has been moved against the LS Speaker by the Opposition.
