A low-intensity blast was reported near the Sirhind Railway section in Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib District late Friday night. This incident occured ahead of Republic Day, causing security concerns and panic among sections of the public. There was no loss of life, only the railway track sustained some damage, which was later repaired by the Railways and services were resumed on the route. The trains glass plate got damaged and the pilot sustained minor injuries. An investigation team has been formed which is working on the case and will put the culprits behind the bars soon, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shubham Agrawal.
Police are investigating all the possible angles associated with the incident, said DIG Singh, who visited the site soon after the incident. “We cannot rule out the role of anti-social elements in this incident. It is a criminal activity. However, it would be too early to link it to any terrorist activity as the investigation is still underway,” he said. This incident, which happended two days before the Republic Day has raised concerns regarding law and order situation in Punjab, at a time when the state police are running an intensive campaign against anti-social elements. The State has been put on red alert as a ahead of the Republic Day.
