World’s largest Shivling (33 feet tall) has been installed in East Champaran District of Bihar on Sunday at the site of under-construction Virat Ramayan temple. The installation ceremony was completed by the priests from Ayodhya and Varanasi and was celebrated by the chants of “Har Har Mahadev”. A helicopter showered flower petals on the Shivling, drawing cheers from thousands of onlookers. Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar also visited the temple.
The installation of Shivling described as ‘Sahasralingam’, took place at the construction temple complex in Kalyanpur block. The Shivling is carved from a single peice of black granite and it took nearly a decade to craft it in Pattikadu village in Tamil Nadu. It bears 1,008 smaller lingams on its surface. The cost for the entire Shivling’s carving is around 3 crores, which has been designed in a way that it stays stable for centuries.
The Virat Ramayan temple is supposed to be a three storey temple. As the devotee will enter the temple, he/she will first worship Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. The Virat Ramayan temple will consist of total 22 temples of Shaiva and Vaishnava gods and godesses. A total of 120 acres of land has been devoted for the construction of the temple.
