An unusual rain occurred in parts of Delhi and adjoining cities in the National Capital Region (NCR) early on Friday, pushing the minimum temperature to a season’s low of 4.6 degrees Celsius. The weather department had not forecast rainfall in the capital and NCR cities. The maximum temperature hit only 17 degrees celsius. After the unusual rain dipped temperatures drastically in several parts on Friday, dense fog is set to return across large parts of north India on January 10. Thick fog might prevail over Punjab and northern districts of Rajasthan which may reduce visibility during morning and late night hours.
Cold conditions will still prevail over North India, despite fog-like conditions. Much of North India will be dominated by the north-westerly winds, keeping daytime temperatures subdued. Parts of UP, Bihar, Jharkhand may see slight improvement in daytime temperatures. Meanwhile, southern India is preparing for a change in the weather pattern. Heavy rainfall is expected over Tamil Nadu coast whereas interior Tamil Nadu, Kerala and south interior Karnataka could witness light, scattered rain. Overall, mixed weather picture is expected on January 10 across the country with dense fog prevailing over the North and rainfall over the southern coastal regions.
