Two young officers from Haryana and Himachal Pradesh have earned commissions in the Indian Air Force (IAF), embodying the spirit of determination from India’s heartland. Hailing from modest backgrounds in these northern states, their success highlights how youth from small towns are breaking barriers to join elite forces, inspiring a new generation amid rising defence aspirations.

Rigorous Path to Selection

Their journey started with focused preparation for IAF entry exams like NDA, CDS or AFCAT. Excelling in academics—especially physics, math and English—they cleared written tests, followed by the grueling Services Selection Board (SSB) interviews. These assessed leadership, teamwork and resilience through group tasks, psychological tests and personal interviews over five days.

From Haryana’s wrestling heartland and Himachal’s hilly terrains, they trained relentlessly in physical fitness, overcoming challenges like altitude and rural constraints. Medical fitness was the final hurdle, ensuring only the fittest proceed.

Intensive Training Phase

Selected candidates underwent 74 weeks of training at the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, Hyderabad. The curriculum blended ground school, flying (for pilots), technical skills and leadership drills. Daily routines included PT at dawn, simulator sessions, weapon handling and aviation theory.

The Passing Out Parade (POP) capped their efforts, with precision marches before dignitaries. They took the oath, receiving commissions as Flying Officers, marking their transition from cadets to leaders.

Regional Pride and Impact

Haryana celebrates another son in uniform, reinforcing its military legacy alongside Army contributions. Himachal, with its soldier tradition, sees this as proof that hill youth can soar high. Families, villages and schools hosted felicitation events, boosting local enrollment in defence coaching.

Lessons for Aspirants

Their story stresses early goal-setting, discipline and mentorship. IAF seeks holistic candidates—academically sharp, physically robust and mentally tough. With branches like flying, ground duty and technical open, opportunities abound.

These officers now serve in squadrons, upholding IAF’s motto: “Nothing is Beyond Our Reach.” Their achievement motivates thousands, proving grit trumps geography.
