Two Indian nationals were killed and 10 others injured after a deadly drone attack in Oman’s Sohar city, said the government officials. The attack occurred in the Al Awahi Industrial area of Sohar, nearly 200 km from Muscat. Currently, efforts are underway to repatriate 15 Indian nationals stranded there. A total of 11 people were injured in the incident, of whom 10 were Indians. Out of the 10 Indians, five have been discharged after receiving treatment and others are receiving treatment in a city hospital. The Indian mission is in close touch with all of them and none of them have received serious injuries.
The government said that safety of its citizens is top priority of the government, with nearly one crore Indians living and working across West Asian countries. The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and raised concerns regarding the safety of its citizens and maritime security. In a major breakthrough, Iran has allowed Indian ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz saying, “India is our friend”. This comes shortly after, Iran permitted two Indian-linked vessels to pass through the Strait, even as global market and supply routes face disruptions. The Strait of Hormuz is the most critical choke point, as 90% of India’s oil imports pass through this Strait.
