A student of Government Degree College in Dharamshala, died during treatment at a private hospital in Ludhiana. She was in severe trauma caused by physical assault, ragging and sexual harassment at her college. The incident dates back to September 18, 2025, when three senior female students namely, Harshita, Aakriti, and Komolika assaulted, and intimidated the victim aged 19 years. According to the complaint, a college professor, Ashok Kumar, committed obscene acts towards her, leaving the student in fear. Due to assault and physical injuries, the girl was admitted to the hospital and since then her health deteriorated. After treating her at multiple hospitals in Himachal Pradesh, she was finally shifted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMC), Ludhiana, for advanced treatment. She succumbed to injuries on December 26, 2025. The family lodged a formal complaint with Dharamshala police on January 01, 2026. The accused are three senior female students Harshita, Aakriti, and Komolika and Professor Ashok Kumar. The victim was admitted to at least seven hospitals during her treatment, said the police. Further investigation is going on to find the cause of death. Police registered an FIR under provisions related to sexual harassment, physical assault, criminal intimidation and ragging under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Ragging) Act.
