Protests in West Bengal continue over the death of a Hindu man, Dipu Chandra Das, 25-year-old. He was lynched to death by a mob and his body set on fire over allegations of blasphemy in Baluka in Mymensingh (Bangladesh) on December 18, 2025. Das, a garment factory worker, was first beaten up by a mob over blasphemy allegations and hanged from a tree, his body was later set on fire by the crowd. It was alleged that Das had written a social media post hurting religious sentiments. However, no such evidence has been found. As per the officials in Bangladesh, 12 people were arrested on December 21, 2025.
Following the incident, protests were seen in many cities in India like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, calling for protection of minorities in the neighbouring country. Hindu organizations have been protesting near Bangladeshi diplomatic missions. In New Delhi, protests were led by Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, holding saffron flags gathering near the heavily fortified Bangladesh High Commission. In West Bengal, members of Bangiyo Hindu Jagran and other organisations protested near the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission. Similar demonstartions were held in Mumbai and Hyderabad.
The protest in Kolkata took a violent turn on Tuesday (December 23, 2025), when policemen clashed with members of the Hindu Jagran Manch outside the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh. More than 20 proteters were injured and many detained by the police. Traffic was also disrupted due to the demonstrations.

Mohammad Yunus, Head of the Interim Government in Bangladesh expressed profound sorrow over Das’s killing and extended condolences to his family. The interim government of Bangladesh said that at least 12 people have been arrested in connection with the case .
