Amid deadly unrest in Iran, India on January 14, asked all its nationals – including students, pilgrims, businesspersons and tourists – to leave the country using available means, including commercial flights. The situation in Iran has taken a deadly turn, with weeks-long protests showing no signs of slowing down. US President Donald Trump on Tuesday urged the protesters to take over the institutions and urged them not to back down. He also said, help is on the way, without any further details. In turn, Iran has blamed US and Israel for the current situation in the country by instigating the protesters. As per reports, death toll has crossed 2,500 mark in Iran, making it one of the deadliest protests to date.
Against this backdrop, India has urged its citizens to avoid places of protest, keep their travel and identification documents ready and stay in touch with the Indian Embassy. Those not registered with the embassy have been asked to do so at the earliest. “All Indian nationals in Iran are requested to also have their travel and immigration documents, including passports and IDs, readily available with them. They are requested to contact the Indian Embassy for any assistance in this regard,” read the advisory. Tehran has cautioned its neighbouring countries against hosting US troops and said it would attack American bases if the White House continues to intervene during the protests in Iran.
