In an incident, after the killing of prominent leader Sharif Osman Hadi, another leader, Motaleb Shikdar linked to the movement was shot at on Monday. He was shot by unidentified gunmen in broad daylight in Khulna city. He was immediately rushed to hospital and is out of danger now. According to the police, the bullet grazed Mr. Shikdar’s scalp and exited without causing any fatal injury. As per reports, shooting happened inside a house. The shooting comes as pressure continues to mount on the interim government following the killing of Hadi, convener and spokesperson of Inqilab Manch, a socio-cultural organisation, and a prominent figure of the July uprising. The authorities do not have precise information about the whereabouts of the killers, Bangladesh authorities said.
Bangladesh puts visa operations on hold
The Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi has stopped issuing visas due prevailing security situation. This came after India closed its visa application centres in Bangladesh that were targeted by mobs following the death of radical leader Sharif Osman Hadi. This is for the first time that Bangladesh has suspended its visa services. India has suspended its visa services earlier as well during the anti-Hasina uprisings in July-August 2024.
