In a shocking incident, another Hindu man was beaten to death in Bangladesh on Wednesday night (December 24, 2025). Amrit Mondal, alias Samrat, 29-years-old was killed in Rajbari’s Pangsha sub-district – around three-and-a-half hours from the capital, Dhaka – at 11 pm. Earlier this week, Dipu Chandra Das was also lynched and his body was set on fire. Mondal was known locally as the leader of a group called “Samrat Bahini.” He was taken to Pangsha Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead at around 2 am, Police said. Samrat was accused of extortion and other illegal activities. Both these incidents took place against the backdrop of widespread unrest in Bangladesh following the death of Sharif Osman Hadi.
This incident has happened at a time when aspiring prime minister Tarique Rahman returned to Bangladesh, ending 17 years in self-imposed exile with a promise to deliver safety and justice if his party wins next year’s elections. The interim government in Dhaka said that the matter was “unfortunate” but that it was “not at all a communally motivated incident”.
In response to the earlier incident of mob lynching of Dipu, Ministry of External Affairs said that India is keeping a close watch on the situation in Dhaka and remains in touch with Bangladeshi authorities and has conveyed strong concerns regarding attack on minorities.
